    The New Member Reception is an opportunity to celebrate new members for their generous gifts to the U. The buffet table at Eastcliff was beautifully dressed for the occasion.

    Eastcliff was built in the 1920s for a local businessman and eventually donated to the University by the family. It has been the official residence of the U of M president since 1960.

    In welcoming everyone, Kathy Schmidlkofer noted that gifts from new Presidents Club members will support everything from future teachers, doctors, and engineers to Gopher athletics, children’s health, and the arts.

    In keeping with tradition, Presidents Club certificates and pins were presented to new members attending the event, including alumnus Kelly Coleman.

    Albert and Dorothy Marden, new members of the Trustees Society, endowed a fund in the Mathematics Department to support an annual lecture and a scholarship.

    Tryphon Georgiou and Efi Foufoula-Georgiou established a scholarship in appreciation for the opportunities the U and College of Science and Engineering have provided them, as professors, and their children, as students.

    The Presidents Club includes many U of M faculty and their spouses, among them Erik and Virginia van Kuijk. Dr. Erik van Kuijk chairs the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences.
