Promotional requirements for events benefiting the U

Referencing a U cause

Because your event is not being hosted or sponsored by the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) or the U of M, the University and/or UMF may only be identified as the beneficiary of the event. For example, a third party event may not be called “University of Minnesota Golf Outing.” The event should be promoted as the “Golf Outing to Benefit the University of Minnesota.” Promotions and solicitations for your event should clearly state the purpose for which the funds are being raised. We recommend this statement: “All net proceeds from this event will benefit [optional to add detail purpose] the University of Minnesota through the University of Minnesota Foundation.”

Using the U logo

While we encourage groups fundraising for the U to talk about the U as a beneficiary and link directly to U of M online giving systems, non-U groups are not permitted to use the U of M logo without prior permission from the U of M Foundation or University Relations. To seek permission, send a request to brand@umn.edu.
