The leadership phase of the Driven campaign launched in 2011, with a public launch in September 2017. The campaign ended on June 30, 2021.
The campaign raised $4.4 billion.
Each gift went to the college, unit, or purpose specified by the donor. Overall, the campaign raised $1.03 billion for students, $2.05 billion for faculty and research, and $1.35 billion for University initiatives and outreach. Learn more about these areas.
Being in a campaign is a great opportunity for all campuses, colleges, and units across the University of Minnesota system to join together and showcase their philanthropic priorities at the same time.
Yes, estate and other planned gifts counted toward the campaign goal. During the campaign, generous donors included the U in their will or trust, named the U as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, and made gifts that provide income, like a charitable gift annuity. All gifts and pledges received from the campaign’s start on July 1, 2011, through the completion of the campaign on June 30, 2021, are part of the Driven campaign.
Corporations invested more than $900 million during the 10 years of the campaign.
The University of Minnesota seeks gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and others on an ongoing basis. The need is still great for support for students, faculty and research, and outreach.
