Taking care of loved ones is often the top priority when completing your estate plan. With thoughtful planning, you can provide for your family and friends while continuing to benefit the charitable causes that reflect your values and passions.
Including the U of M in your estate plan is a simple, meaningful way to have a lasting impact on the areas of the University that are most important to you. You can designate your gift to be used any way you wish—to benefit a specific campus, college, or program; endow an undergraduate scholarship; or fund medical research, for example. Whatever your passion, we can help you create your legacy.
There are a number of ways to make an estate gift, and you can choose the option that best fits your personal situation and goals. You could:
- Include a gift to the U in your will or trust
- Name the U as a beneficiary of your retirement assets, life insurance policy, or other account
- Give a specific amount or a percentage of what remains after your other beneficiaries are provided for.
Estate gifts—large or small—sustain and strengthen the University for generations to come.

Share your gift plans
If you have already included a gift to the University of Minnesota in your will or trust, or named the University as a beneficiary of your retirement account, life insurance policy, or other type of estate gift, thank you for your generosity!
We hope you will share your gift plans with us. You can do this by completing a Statement of Future Gift form. The information you share will be kept confidential.
This form records your wishes for the use of your future gift. As with any gift to the University, you may choose to direct it to a specific campus, college, or program. All gifts, including estate commitments, are included in Driven: The University of Minnesota Campaign.
Anyone who makes an estate or other planned gift to the University is welcomed into the Heritage Society, a part of the President’s Club that recognizes forward-thinking donors who have chosen to make contributions that will benefit the University beyond their lifetimes. Members can choose to remain anonymous.
