Define event concept

  • Determine which University of Minnesota cause your event will benefit
  • Create your event message
  • Identify event specifics, such as the date, time, audience, and location
  • Submit an event proposal to UMF


  • Set a goal and outline a budget
  • Consider event sponsors and/or an auction as part of your event •
  • Project event expenses to keep your finances on track
  • Establish a timeline to prioritize important duties
  • Consider using URaiseMN, the U’s crowdfunding tool, to engage a wider audience
  • Secure vendors and volunteers

Promote your event

  • Mail and/or email invitations to anyone you know with an interest in your cause
  • Enjoy the event and congratulate your volunteers for their work to support the University of Minnesota

Follow up

  • Acknowledge and thank your donors, participants, sponsors, and in-kind donors with an email or a card
  • Send collected funds to UMF within 30 days of your event. (See financial guidelines)
