Maximize your impact, minimize taxes
Four reasons to name the U of M a retirement account beneficiary

Do you have a tax-deferred retirement account such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b)? Would you like to make a meaningful gift to the University of Minnesota?

If so, consider naming the University of Minnesota Foundation as a beneficiary. By doing so, the University will receive a percentage of the assets remaining in your account after you have provided for your loved ones.

The benefits of making such a gift include:

  • Tax savings. Unlike other assets you may own like stock or real estate, tax-deferred retirement assets are subject to income and estate taxes, but pass tax-free to the U of M.
  • Flexibility. You can change your beneficiaries at any time if your circumstances change.
  • Simplicity. You can update your beneficiary designations online as often as you wish without the cost of revising your will or trust.
  • Impact. Your gift will make a lasting difference for future generations.
