Putting your donor-advised fund to work

If you have a donor-advised fund (DAF), you can use it to fuel student success, groundbreaking research and programs in the areas you care about most at the University of Minnesota.

Directing a grant to the University

Recommending a grant from your fund is straightforward. Simply contact your DAF sponsoring organization with the following details to direct your gift to the University of Minnesota Foundation:

  • Legal name: University of Minnesota Foundation
  • UMF federal tax ID: 41-6042488
  • Mailing address: P.O. Box 860266, Minneapolis, MN 55486
  • Designation: Note the specific campus, college, program or fund where you want your grant directed.

A lasting legacy: Name the University as a remainder beneficiary

If you want to ensure your charitable impact continues far into the future, you can designate the University of Minnesota Foundation to receive all or a portion of whatever assets remain in your DAF after your lifetime. As with all gifts, you can choose to designate the remainder to any campus, college or program at the University of Minnesota.

How to do it:

  1. Contact your DAF sponsoring organization.
  2. Request a beneficiary designation form.
  3. Name the University of Minnesota Foundation (tax ID: 41-6042488) as a primary or percentage beneficiary.
  4. Let us know! If you choose to name the University as a remainder beneficiary, we would love to thank you and ensure we understand exactly how you want your gift to be used.
